Liverpool 84 would have shown no mercy either. Enjoy Championship football.

I know I'm biased but the game has moved on too much in 25 years for this to be a serious question.

The speed and precision of the modern game is such that even though the '84 Liverpool team was exceptional, they would be over-run by any of the top teams of today, even this year's Liverpool team.

The European Cup was easier to win then, as was the league by a dominant team. Not to dismiss that Liverpool side which was awesome. I'd hate to be a Liverpool fan brought up on that diet of exquisite football, having now to get by on the meagre rations served up by Sr Benitez. More Manuel from Fawlty Towers though he was from Barcelona not Madrid.

Anyway I'm sure that United will put this argument to bed next week.

A better debate would have been to compare this United team with that of '99

If you're talking about a ground where they actually play FOOTBALL, we can count Stamford Bridge OUT!

I have to agree with Jeremy, it's impossible to measure today's teams against teams of yesteryear, the game is radically different now.
